Fuel Your Faith Not Your Fear!

Hey gang!

I’m writing a new book for a proposal I’ve sent to Love Inspired Suspense. I guess writing it is a step of faith. 🙂 Since we’re talking about faith–my heroine has faith but she struggles with a lot of fear about the future and all kinds of things that can happen in this world. So many bad things have already happened. I put together a playlist of worship songs that I think Georgia Maxwell needs to hear–songs that tell her story and would fuel her faith and to help her battle fear.

And it happens to be a timely message. We are still living in uncertain times. There’s a lot of fear and anxiety. While concern is legit, I don’t think paralyzing fear is!

I thought I’d share the Spotify playlist I’ve been listening to for weeks while I work through this story.

Since I’m the author I already know she’s going to overcome it and rise up stronger than ever. God is our Author and Finisher of our faith and He knows how our story ends as well…in victory in Christ. We’re coming out of this stronger than before!

If you listen to the playlist (or follow it if you’re on Spotify) I’d love to hear which song meant the most to you. Answer in the comments or find me on Facebook and let me know!

Warmly,

Jess

My Free Gifts to You

Hey friends!

Right now it seems like everything is upside down as we grapple for a new kind of normal. Extroverts are not doing okay. Introverts have some social breathing room, but everyone is uncertain of what is ahead and that can be a scary time.

Let me encourage you: “Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God.” Psalm 90: 2 NLT

From beginning to end, You are God! That gives me such comfort and hope. That tells me that God was there at our beginning–and before. He’s in the middle. And in the end. He’s in control and He’s good.

There’s a lot of speculation on why all this is happening. The enemy’s tactics. God’s judgment. I don’t know. What I do know though, is that these circumstances don’t change the faithfulness and goodness of God. I know He is with us. He’s ahead of it. And this gives us, yet again, another opportunity to trust Him. To take Him at His Word. To return to Him if we’ve been away awhile. To reach unbelievers, who do not have the hope we have, with the gospel message in a myriad of online ways.

Is it just a trial and tribulation? Maybe. But I know that Jesus has overcome the world and given us the promise that through them He will be with us.

Is this the end? I don’t know. Maybe. But in the end, all is restored and made new, including us. And we’ll be with Him forever.

I take comfort in the promises. And I’m praying for you out there who are fearful. I’m praying for you out there who have legitimate concerns like what to do with your children while you have to work because you’re essential personnel, or how you’ll pay your bills because you’re not working right now. How will you tackle educating your children, supplying for your family, and providing for their needs.

God is with you. This is the time for the church to rise up and take care of people. I trust somehow, some way, God will get you what you need when you need it. That’s what I’m praying.

Me? What can I do? Not a lot but encourage you and offer you some escape, some entertainment, some laughs, a little romance, and some hope through two of my books that I’m making free through March 25th.

If you haven’t read them, snatch them up. If you have, share the free deal with your friends and family. And know I am praying for you!

Warmly,

Jess

An infamous blogger and magazine writer with a cynical view.
And one romantic week that will bring second chances.

Neeley Valentine has spent nearly all of her savings to participate in a matchmaking week on Joy Island in the Bahamas. But she’s not looking for a love connection so much as someone who will force her out of her comfort zone.

Pax Cannon is known to the online world as the Love Curmudgeon, and he’s ready to prove in one of his biggest articles yet that matchmaking weeks are a joke and men should run as fast they can from them.

Fragments of Fear

Y’all. For real. I am a such a fan of Carrie Stuart Parks’ books. They are some of my favorite suspense/thrillers. For those of you who enjoy romance, there are light romances…hints really in her books. But they can’t be labeled as romantic suspense.

I just finished reading her latest thanks to Netgalley. Fragments of Fear is a new book and seems to be a stand alone.

Stolen art. A New Mexico archaeological dig. An abandoned dog. And a secret that’s worth killing for.
Evelyn McTavish’s world came crashing down with the suicide of her fiancé. As she struggles to put her life back together and make a living from her art, she receives a call that her dog is about to be destroyed at the pound. Except she doesn’t own a dog. The shelter is adamant that the microchip embedded in the canine with her name and address makes it hers.

Evelyn recognizes the dog as one owned by archaeologist John Coyote because she was commissioned to draw the two of them. The simple solution is to return the dog to his owner—but she arrives only to discover John’s murdered body.

As Evelyn herself becomes a target, she crosses paths with undercover FBI agent Sawyer Price. The more he gets to know her, the more personally invested he becomes in keeping her safe. Together, they’re desperate to find the links between so many disparate pieces.

And the clock is ticking.

There’s so much I adore about Carrie’s books, but let’s just chat about this one.

Characters: Well-crafted. Real. I related to the main character Tavish (love that nickname). She’s a bit cynical, but not in a “whiny I don’t like you” way. She’s had some hard hands dealt her in life. I also love her wit/humor. She’s a fighter, a survivor, and a searcher. I will say she finds everything she’s searching for which brings us to…

Faith Thread: Carrie always has a faith thread in her books, some a little more overt than others. This one is in the middle. I wouldn’t consider it preachy in any way and I think it can cross both markets, Christian readership and General Market without getting dinged for being “too Christian” or “not Christian enough”.

Suspense/Thriller: I enjoyed putting the puzzle pieces together while hanging on throughout the danger scenes and there were aplenty to keep avid suspense readers enthralled as well as mystery readers who love trying to figure out what is going on and whodunnit.

Resolution: Everything is wrapped up and explained in a natural way that makes sense. No ‘give me a break’ moments! At least not for me.

Highlight: If you love dogs, you’ll love really all of Carrie’s books as they have a direct role, but this one features a pretty cool Puli.

So put it on your TBR pile or go preorder it now so it will drop right into your Kindle on July 23rd, 2019 when it releases!

Y’all! How many of you love getting together with girlfriends for a Girls’ Night Out with some of your killer friends? They’re just the bestest ever. Wild and crazy and up for all sorts of mischief. Me too! And so does my good friend Emily Shuff. We got together and decided to do something super fun for you and a group of girlfriends to make the next Girls’ Night Out even more fun.

That’s right! We’re partnering to bring you a spooky/suspenseful photoshoot. In fact, we’ll be heading out on a location scout in just a few weeks to find the perfect (and safe) place for the photo session! We’ll be posting some video snippets of our scouting day for you to see!

In Killer Exposure, my heroine is a crime scene photographer and the hero is a storm chaser, capturing all sorts of wild weather on film. It’s set in a small Alabama town and a local carnival! Some of the scenes take place in spooky settings! So we wanted to bring photography and suspense together to give y’all a fantastic fun night! One captured on camera that you can talk about for years to come!

What does this giveaway include?

The winner receives an Online Gallery of 45+ images. All edited images are available for download! You and your girlfriends can get together and do whatever you want with the images!

Where will this photoshoot be located?

The shoot will be in the Memphis or Northwest MS region (Desoto County, Tate County, Marshall County). The winner will be notified privately by email of the location.

Anyone can enter but the winner is responsible for transportation to the photoshoot site. Want to drive from Arkansas? Well, come on. Alabama? Roll tide! If you do not have transportation to the region, a new winner will be drawn. So be sure you can get yourself here!

When is the photoshoot?

The winner has FOUR dates to choose from for the Killer Friends photo session: Friday, July 26th, Saturday, July 27th, Friday, August 16th, or Saturday, August 17th.

*If the winner can’t make any of these dates, they will be forfeit and a new winner will be selected.

The photo session begins at 6:30 p.m.

Just think of all the fun possibilities! Come to the photoshoot then on to dinner, maybe try an escape room…endless ideas to make this night a blast.

Killer Exposure & a Killer Giveaway!

Another book is about to emerge into the world tomorrow, kicking and screaming. Okay, the characters are kicking and screaming–some due to a killer trying to wrestle them to death and some emotionally being forced forward.

Sometimes, I think we all try to move forward emotionally even if we’re kicking and screaming. Because staying in the past. Living in the past. It simply isn’t rewarding. It’s like spinning wheels in mud.

But enough of the heavy.

How about a giveaway? Yes! I’m so excited about Killer Exposure.

I’ve always wanted to try my hand at a secret baby trope. How do you make one super believable? Can I? Lord, help me! And I think it worked out pretty believably.

Also, I love weather disaster movies and plots. It creates extra tension and raises the stakes. It’s sinister in itself. So I threw in a tornado. Cold Case Christmas is set with a blizzard as a backdrop. And the next book, Recovered Secrets (September 2019) will be set along the banks of the Mississippi and floodwaters prove deadly! In fact, let me be the first to share with you the cover for it!

One of my favorite movies (yeah, I know most of it is unbelievable but isn’t that what fiction is for? To stretch the imagination–to imagine!) is Twister. It’s an oldie but a goodie. I love the idea of storm-chasing, so yep, my hero is a storm chaser and he’s really good at capturing it on video and in still shots.

Throw in a small town carnival, a killer on the loose, and romantic thrills…well I’d say you’re all set for one wild, action packed ride! Just don’t get on the Ferris wheel. Trust no ride at this carnival. (Or any really lol)

So here it is. I’m giving away 5 signed paperback copies of Killer Exposure. U.S. ONLY. 18+ Enter the giveaway below!
