Giveaway: Cold Case Takedown 10 print copies

Hey everyone!

Last year I didn’t have a single Love Inspired Suspense novel release because I had taken 2019 off for some other things unrelated to writing. But I gotta tell you, it was great to get back to the land of fiction in 2020–I needed the escape, as I’m sure many of you did and found it in reading or writing yourself.

And all the work in 2020 is coming to fruition in 2021 which means you’ll have 3 brand new books to scarf down in April, August, and December. This Cold Case Investigators series was one of my favorites so far (I say that about every series at the time).

The series follows the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation Cold Case Unit (MBI) and tells their stories of struggle, faith, romance, and high-impact danger!  They’ll battle things like clinical anxiety and panic disorder, gender bias, guilt, shame, feelings of uncertainty and no control. You’ll see villains who are less diabolical (though cut-throat all the same) and more motivated by feelings you and I could be motivated by if we didn’t have faith and hope but acted on greed, unhealthy desires, and desperation.

And all books will take place in small fictional towns in Mississippi, although I admit to modeling Book 2 after where I live!

April kicks off with Cold Case Takedown which is unit chief Colt McCoy and podcaster Georgia Maxwell. It’s a story about battling fear and clinical anxiety. It’s about faith and prayer and even medication–because some anxiety needs treated as much as high cholesterol! And it’s about giving grace to those who suffer with anxiety/panic that aren’t spiritual in nature but medical. It’s also about small town corruption in regards to football. Everybody down south knows football is king! Friday Night Lights, baby!

So to celebrate, I’m giving away 10 signed paperback copies of Cold Case Takedown to 10 people! EEEK! And just a little ahem…authors truly do love reviews because it helps push the book out into the big book world to be seen by others. Even if it’s “I really liked this book and these characters!” Early reviews can be posted on Goodreads too! But Amazon makes ya wait until Release Day, just saying.

Now, feel free to enter for a chance to win 1 out of 10 copies and share this post so your friends can enter too! Share the love, y’all.

Fuel Your Faith Not Your Fear!

Hey gang!

I’m writing a new book for a proposal I’ve sent to Love Inspired Suspense. I guess writing it is a step of faith. 🙂 Since we’re talking about faith–my heroine has faith but she struggles with a lot of fear about the future and all kinds of things that can happen in this world. So many bad things have already happened. I put together a playlist of worship songs that I think Georgia Maxwell needs to hear–songs that tell her story and would fuel her faith and to help her battle fear.

And it happens to be a timely message. We are still living in uncertain times. There’s a lot of fear and anxiety. While concern is legit, I don’t think paralyzing fear is!

I thought I’d share the Spotify playlist I’ve been listening to for weeks while I work through this story.

Since I’m the author I already know she’s going to overcome it and rise up stronger than ever. God is our Author and Finisher of our faith and He knows how our story ends as well…in victory in Christ. We’re coming out of this stronger than before!

If you listen to the playlist (or follow it if you’re on Spotify) I’d love to hear which song meant the most to you. Answer in the comments or find me on Facebook and let me know!

Warmly,

Jess

My Free Gifts to You

Hey friends!

Right now it seems like everything is upside down as we grapple for a new kind of normal. Extroverts are not doing okay. Introverts have some social breathing room, but everyone is uncertain of what is ahead and that can be a scary time.

Let me encourage you: “Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God.” Psalm 90: 2 NLT

From beginning to end, You are God! That gives me such comfort and hope. That tells me that God was there at our beginning–and before. He’s in the middle. And in the end. He’s in control and He’s good.

There’s a lot of speculation on why all this is happening. The enemy’s tactics. God’s judgment. I don’t know. What I do know though, is that these circumstances don’t change the faithfulness and goodness of God. I know He is with us. He’s ahead of it. And this gives us, yet again, another opportunity to trust Him. To take Him at His Word. To return to Him if we’ve been away awhile. To reach unbelievers, who do not have the hope we have, with the gospel message in a myriad of online ways.

Is it just a trial and tribulation? Maybe. But I know that Jesus has overcome the world and given us the promise that through them He will be with us.

Is this the end? I don’t know. Maybe. But in the end, all is restored and made new, including us. And we’ll be with Him forever.

I take comfort in the promises. And I’m praying for you out there who are fearful. I’m praying for you out there who have legitimate concerns like what to do with your children while you have to work because you’re essential personnel, or how you’ll pay your bills because you’re not working right now. How will you tackle educating your children, supplying for your family, and providing for their needs.

God is with you. This is the time for the church to rise up and take care of people. I trust somehow, some way, God will get you what you need when you need it. That’s what I’m praying.

Me? What can I do? Not a lot but encourage you and offer you some escape, some entertainment, some laughs, a little romance, and some hope through two of my books that I’m making free through March 25th.

If you haven’t read them, snatch them up. If you have, share the free deal with your friends and family. And know I am praying for you!

Warmly,

Jess

Fragments of Fear

Y’all. For real. I am a such a fan of Carrie Stuart Parks’ books. They are some of my favorite suspense/thrillers. For those of you who enjoy romance, there are light romances…hints really in her books. But they can’t be labeled as romantic suspense.

I just finished reading her latest thanks to Netgalley. Fragments of Fear is a new book and seems to be a stand alone.

Stolen art. A New Mexico archaeological dig. An abandoned dog. And a secret that’s worth killing for.
Evelyn McTavish’s world came crashing down with the suicide of her fiancé. As she struggles to put her life back together and make a living from her art, she receives a call that her dog is about to be destroyed at the pound. Except she doesn’t own a dog. The shelter is adamant that the microchip embedded in the canine with her name and address makes it hers.

Evelyn recognizes the dog as one owned by archaeologist John Coyote because she was commissioned to draw the two of them. The simple solution is to return the dog to his owner—but she arrives only to discover John’s murdered body.

As Evelyn herself becomes a target, she crosses paths with undercover FBI agent Sawyer Price. The more he gets to know her, the more personally invested he becomes in keeping her safe. Together, they’re desperate to find the links between so many disparate pieces.

And the clock is ticking.

There’s so much I adore about Carrie’s books, but let’s just chat about this one.

Characters: Well-crafted. Real. I related to the main character Tavish (love that nickname). She’s a bit cynical, but not in a “whiny I don’t like you” way. She’s had some hard hands dealt her in life. I also love her wit/humor. She’s a fighter, a survivor, and a searcher. I will say she finds everything she’s searching for which brings us to…

Faith Thread: Carrie always has a faith thread in her books, some a little more overt than others. This one is in the middle. I wouldn’t consider it preachy in any way and I think it can cross both markets, Christian readership and General Market without getting dinged for being “too Christian” or “not Christian enough”.

Suspense/Thriller: I enjoyed putting the puzzle pieces together while hanging on throughout the danger scenes and there were aplenty to keep avid suspense readers enthralled as well as mystery readers who love trying to figure out what is going on and whodunnit.

Resolution: Everything is wrapped up and explained in a natural way that makes sense. No ‘give me a break’ moments! At least not for me.

Highlight: If you love dogs, you’ll love really all of Carrie’s books as they have a direct role, but this one features a pretty cool Puli.

So put it on your TBR pile or go preorder it now so it will drop right into your Kindle on July 23rd, 2019 when it releases!
