Must Read Monday: My Foolish Heart (I’m giving away a copy!)

“But perhaps that’s what love was–foolish. After all, God loved most foolishly. He came into the dark world to rescue people who might never love Him back. Maybe, in fact, the foolish heart was the perfect heart.”

Love is always a risk. Fear of rejection, failure, pain. Issy Presley has fears. One of them is leaving her home or backyard–but she wants to. She’s tried. She’s prayed. Fear keeps her locked away.

She works in the backyard, taking over her mother’s garden after she died tragically and she’s the secret host for a night time radio talk show–My Foolish Heart–where she gives advice on romance and dating. Don’t settle for a man who isn’t a perfect 10 on your list! She’s never met her perfect 10. She’s never dated at all.

Enter, Caleb Knight–an ex-college football star, and a wounded ex-soldier. He wants a normal life in the small town of Deep Haven and hopefully the high school football coaching position. He isn’t looking for love, but when he meets his next door neighbor–Issy–things change. He decides to enlist some help from a woman he hears on a late night radio show. Miss Foolish Heart. She has all kinds of advice to share with him to win his next door neighbors heart.

So what did I think?

I think I love me some Susan May Warren! The characters became my friends. Deep Haven became my home. I laughed and sighed at the romance. Pitter-patter sweet romance. The sub-plot with her friend Lucy and the ex-boyfriend coming back to town was just as good as Issy and  Caleb’s.  A great book. I appreciate Tyndale House for giving me a complimentary copy to review!

Perfect love casts out all fear.  Enough said.

“Unknown to her tiny town of Deep Haven, Isadora Presley spends her nights as Miss Foolish Heart, the star host of a syndicated talk radio show. Millions tune in to hear her advice on dating and falling in love, unaware that she’s never really done either. Issy’s ratings soar when it seems she’s falling in love on-air with a caller. A caller she doesn’t realize lives right next door.
Caleb Knight served a tour of duty in Iraq and paid a steep price. The last thing he wants is pity, so he hides his disability and moves to Deep Haven to land his dream job as the high school football coach. When his beautiful neighbor catches his eye, in a moment of desperation he seeks advice from My Foolish Heart, the show that airs before his favorite sports broadcast.
Before he knows it, Caleb finds himself drawn to the host—and more confused than ever. Is his perfect love the woman on the radio . . . or the one next door?”

Who would play YOU if your life was going to be made into a movie?

  1. Hmmm..who would play me? Either Nicole Kidman or Kate Hudson. At least if we are talking closest in looks, although neither really fit :o) And I can't imagine either actress processing chickens or throwing hay bales! Now there's a funny thought!

I'm already a follower of your blog and I read every post! :o)

  2. The book sounds good! Love the fact that Issy has a major fear of leaving home, AND is a secret romantic radio host! Interesting scenario.

    Great question!!!
Um…young Loree : Kate Hudson – I've been told many times that I sound just like her. haha
Older Loree : Sandra Bullock…she's plays strong minded characters and isn't afraid to get dirty, yet, she has a soft, vulnerable side.

  3. Sounds adorable!

I think Meg Ryan could play me–or Julia Roberts. 🙂

  4. How many times do I need to follow your blog? LOL…for some reason, I have to re-follow often! (note to self…quit whining Darlene…it's only a button, click on it!)

On we go. Sounds like a wonderful read. I'll have to give it a go.

Who would play me, well, if she were still alive, Audrey Hepburn would play me as a teenager. My daughter has nicknamed me Audrey because my younger pictures resemble her.

Now days, I would think Julianne Moore. Yeah…I would like that.

  5. I've been told my personality reminds people of Sandra Bullocks – so I'd have to go with her! 🙂 Great and fun question! 🙂

  6. I love all your answers and thanks so much for commenting! Okay, my turn…I'd pick Tina Fey!!! I'll draw the winner tomorrow.
Darlene, my blog and you fight like sisters! ha!

  7. I couldn't think of anyone, so I had to ask my husband. He thinks either Michael Learned (Mom on the Waltons) or Dierdre Hall. He think a good "Mom" character could fit my personality (and no-nonsense! LOL).

  8. Elaine, I could sooo see Deidre Hall! I'd have to google the Waltons' mom! ha! 🙂

  9. Oh, wow! Hehe, I clicked "follow" before I even knew there was a book giveaway! It sounds like a great book I wouldn't mind having though.
Who would play me? Hm. That's a tough question. A couple of people have told me I look like Maggie Gyllenhaal off of the newest Batman series, so maybe her. Or Rachel McAdams if she played me like the character she played on Morning Glory because that's sooo me. Scattered, haha.
By the way, Jessica-I can totally see Tina Fey playing you!

  10. What a fun question! When I was in HS, I would say Jenni Garth from 90210, lol. But now I would choose Gwyneth Paltrow. She can be kinda subdued and mellow. (Hubby chose Drew Barrymore but she's way more fun than I am, lol). I'm an introvert.

Dear Lord Jesus, please let my name get chosen to win this book and help the other ladies to get over their loss. Amen.

[hope that wasn't too irreverant! Please use your fruits on me. :)]

  11. I got it! LOL…all the different options were messing me up and I couldn't remember which one I had to sign in under. I had to ask my daughter which one she used to set me up with. Which…I figured out before asking her! LOL…I am getting tech savvy. My hubby told me the other day…he was way proud. Never thought I'd do all I've done! hehe (thought I'd post my reply here instead of on my blog!) LOL

  12. This books sounds like just the kind of book I like to curl up with sometimes, after a long day of writing and work!

  13. Neat book! I'd love to be included in the giveaway…but I can't think of an actor that would best resemble me…hmmm. I've been told, though, that I look like the model on the cover of Bound By Guilt (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aoNBXBcRILk/TY-U3CY_SsI/AAAAAAAACcM/TnJwkDJrMUo/s1600/Bound+by+Guilt+-+C.J.+Darlington.jpg). So, maybe I would hunt up this girl to represent me in a movie. 😛 lol

If that qualifies as an entry, I'd love a chance at winning this book. Thanks Jessica!!
