Coffee with Jess: A vlog

First of all, thank you to Cheryl Linn Martin for awarding me the Irresistibly Sweet blogger award! Glad you did it before today’s episode!

Yep, I took the plunge. I’m vlogging. Thanks to Katie Ganshert for her brilliant suggestions. If they didn’t work it’s all on me. Oh, and at the end, it keeps saying “My Movie”…ignore it. I haven’t worked out all the glitches. Whatever!

Join me on Monday when you’ll get to meet the amazing woman and writer, Kimberley Gardner Graham–an Operation First Novel finalist! (and my friend)

  1. I am a big fan of Coffee with Jess!

I loved your vlog! I watched it twice..hehe. You are every bit as sweet and sassy as I thought you would be, Jessica.

    Awesome job on the vlog!!

My question is – what kind of coffee is your favorite? and how do you take it? With cream and sugar?

  2. OK, keep the vlogs coming, my friend. Loved "meeting" you.
    :O)
So, you're a Team Edward gal, I take it?
    Now for the real question:
If I came to you and said, "Hey, I want to be a writer!" what would you do?
    1. Tell me to go get myself a real job.
    2. Tell me to go ahead, dive in the deep end, and pursue that crazy dream.

    And why?

  3. I have no question, just a general statement.

Your coffee mug looked big enough you could bathe a small child in it. That's a lot of coffee.

  4. I. am. a. FAN. You are the most beautiful, awesome girl alive! Your personality and sparkly eye shadow came across perfectly!! I'm cheering for you in my quiet 5:30 a.m. house. And dang, I want to try vlogging, but I'm chicken.

    Anyway, questions… questions…
Um… How many different genres have you written or did you try before you settled into Romantic Suspense?

    and…

Please tell us that you also write with humor in your stories. Okay, that's not really a question, but you're so dang funny. You should write humor.

  5. hahhahaaaaa! I love it! You're so pretty and you have a great voice, even with that southern twang which I never knew you had. LOL Someeone else knew you were sassy but I didn't, not until this vlog. lol

  6. Adorable! You have to keep posting these!

  7. Great job. And how neat to hear your actual voice after making it up in my head for so long – yeah, it's pretty spot on:) Amazing courage to take the plunge, you deserve an extra cup of coffee this morning. I love the most your honest "i can't commit to that b/c, well, b/c I don't want to" HA! Yep, I get that. Have a great day, Jess!

  8. You're so cute I could just bite you! Hahahaha! Genuine and adorable. Seriously, I'd adopt you. Now for my question: What's your favorite Bible character and why? Love ya!

  9. Okay, I LOVE this!! I want to do a vlog right now with a coffee cup to have "coffee with Jess"!!

Laughed out loud when you said you would make an answer up–you are just too funny.

    Here's my question:

How do I get my hair to be gorgeous like yours?? Mine is currently overgrown, brassy, with roots showing. Yeah. I do have an appt. this afternoon, though. Hallelujah!

  10. Loree: Thanks! A second watch…I'm honored and giggling. After I stopped feeling silly, it really was fun. I appreciate you asking a question, too!

Beth: LOL I am a Team Edward gal, but the lighting is so hard to get right, I look ghostly. Maybe next time I'll do better–I even used a lot of bronzer to help color it and of course in my mirror I looked like a 12 year old girl who has no clue how to wear make up. Orange face, white neck! Ha!

Brett: What?! You have NO questions. No topics? Nothing off the wall random Brett Minorish? I'm in shock. Actually, that was my kids' baby bathtub. I get real thirsty. 😉

Heather: You make me blush and bat my sparkly lashes! LOL Do it! Do it! Do it! You'll be awesome, I know it.

Jessica: Ha! When I go home, my mom says, "Really, you've been down south too long." LOL Thanks!

Julie: Thanks!!! I wanna see you vlog!

Susan: Isn't it funny how we picture people speaking. Sometimes it's dead on and sometimes, I'm very surprised! I will have that extra cup for sure! 🙂 I have no problem not committing or saying no when I want to! LOL

Donna: FIEND! You crack me up and I so want to be adopted! A Christmas tree still up and lit in Feb. I wanna live there! Nibble nibble!

  11. I'm cracking up! You are so my kind of woman! You hit upon all the reasons why I've hesitated to vlog. Not to mention the weird psycho leaving raunchy comments on my facebook writer page photos (banned him yesterday).

    Love this to pieces.

Oh, my question…What does a typical morning in your house look like?

(See how I was good and didn't write boxers or briefs?)
    ~ Wendy

  12. Jess – you CRACK ME UP. I'm gonna LOVE coffee with Jess – as long as I'm allowed to drink tea or hot cocoa. You did a GREAT job.

My questions are about humor. Are you the funniest person in your family? Do your kids hide when you get on a roll? Your hubby? Have you always been hysterical? Did you inherit it from your mother or father?

Inquiring minds want to know 😉

  13. Fine. I have some questions. I noticed that you did not do this blog in your pajamas on the couch. Have you always worn sparkly eyeshadow when you blog? How much extra time went into preparing yourself for this vlog as opposed to the previous written blogs?

Finally, where did that accent come from? You did not used to talk like that. I think you have been down south for a long time.

  14. I'm glad we work in the same office, Jess, because otherwise my co-workers would think it was odd how much I was cracking up!

(KIDDING. I'm totally NOT reading this at work. Totally.)

    Yay for vlogging!

  15. Oh, I love it! It's so fun to get to hear your voice!! You are hilarious…keep vlogging, my friend!

Okay, my question…and someone else may have already asked it, but please tell me you incorporate your fun sense of humor into your stories…and if you do, how? 🙂

  16. Wendy: Eeew! That is creepy. Way to block him. I get weird friend requests on goodreads like that. Freaks me out! You should do it! Vlog!

Joanne: Great questions. Maybe when I visit back home, I can get my sibs to do a vlog with me and you can be the judge..Psst…I'll win! Shhhh!

Brett: Now that's the Brett Minor I know!! I actually didn't think I had much of one. My mom freaks out all the time. Sixteen years down here'll do it!

Melissa: I honestly didn't know what you were cackling about! I was still popping tums and reheating my coffee! Ha!

  17. I am falling out of my chair laughing!! That was awesome and you are soooo funny 🙂
I love the Jessica Cullen joke. hA!

I thought you were going to wear your jammies. Hmm…I'm bummed.

    Okay, I have a question:
Can you tell us about your very first writing experience? The very first book you wrote and where it is now?

    I'm a big fan 🙂 Love ya!

  18. Good job and so you. Do you drink hot tea, too? Or just coffee?

Hope to see you soon at BCW. Miss you!

  19. What fun, Jess! Glad you've joined the world of vlogging! Also love your transparency – a couple minute vlog CAN be a pain! I'm with you on that one! Looking forward to your next video. Have a fantastic weekend! Hugs!

Thanks for stopping by Life Lessons! And you're absolutely right, nothing quenches like Jesus!

  20. What a hoot! You are hysterical! I LOVED your VLOG. Oh but a question??? What to ask you?? Where did you get the y'all at the end? Are you from the south or just pick that up somewhere. (I used to say you guys as I was growing up because my Yankee cousins teased me about my Texas y'all.)

  21. LOVE this!

"If I don't know the answer…I'll make one up!" …So totally funny! My kinda gal! Your pretty, sweet, and spunky. 🙂

My question: How many cups of coffee do you actually drink each day? (I'm a big coffee fan, too, but I've had to cut back.)

Oh,and one more: I may have already asked you this previously, are you coming to ACFW?

Have a super, duper day! Keep vlogging–you were Grrrreat! 🙂

  22. That was adorable. I thought you were from Chicago?!?! I guess it's been a while, huh? 😀 I loved your accent!!!! So much southern sweetness coming through!

    I guess I don't really have a question… I just wanted to comment. 🙂

  23. Literally running out the door this second but I had to say…I love it! You are just too fun. And even though I knew you were sassy, I never pictured you with such a cute drawl. 🙂 I'm gonna try to talk like you all day today. LOL! (Be back later with a question.)

  24. You are braver than I am! Never say never, but right now I'm definitely not doing vlogs!

Hope you do more! You're a natural. 🙂

  25. You are so stinkin' adorable! LOL I LOVED your first vlog, and you can bet I'll be back for more!

  26. Thanks everyone for such kind words today! I am LOVING these questions and already plotting how to answer them. 🙂

  27. LOL! I loooooooved this!! Oh my goodness, why won't you commit to one a week? It'd be a great Friday revival! Oh Jessica, I look forward to the day I meet you in person! 😀

  28. I love Coffee With Jess! You're so pretty and your comments are just cute! Now we get a voice to put with your sense of humor.

Question: How do you set up your writing space? Do you personalize your desk and computer?

    Have a happy Friday!

  29. Woot! Woot! One million "hearts" for you and this vlog. So much fun!

  30. Cute! You are a very brave person and I hope to see more of these! Great job!

  31. Okay. Since I just recently started blogging I can't yet imagine vlogging. But here's the thing. You're the first vlog I've watched. And it was your first time vlogging. You're bravery encourages me. I'm part of team Rachelle. Nice to meet you! Heather Kopp

  32. Aww you're so cute, Jess! I had NO IDEA you had an accent. So cute! Loved it!

Let's see what can I ask you?

If you can pick one writer you would love to go on a book tour with, who would it be and why?

    🙂

  33. Okay, here's my question…

You're in the grocery store, running late for an event. You only need to grab three things – let's say chocolate, wine and post-it notes…I don't know…just go with it! 🙂 As you head to check out in the 15 items or less lane, crazy lady with a gazillion items gets in front of you! What do you do? Do you say something? Do you wait patiently? What do YOU do?

  34. Thanks for all the compliments, questions, and tweets! You're all so encouraging and I appreciate it.

Rachel: Thanks and you'll definitely be seeing some more.

Heather: So nice to meet you too! How funny it's my first vlog and your first time to watch. Katie Ganshert has several about writing and they're wonderful! #teamrachel 😉

    Have a great weekend, everyone!

  35. I loved your vlog, Jessica! I think it's a terrific idea, and I look forward to seeing more! You are so funny. 🙂

  36. Oh my word, you are too funny! I love your voice and your accent!

Okay, here's my question…I noticed on Facebook you always have funny stories about your kids. Do they provide any inspiration for your fiction writing?

  37. HAHAHA Jessica Cullen!!! Great first vlog!!! Your accent is adorable! I enjoyed this very much and am looking forward to more.

  38. I love vlogging! It makes people so much more "real." I need to try it someday…and I love your accent, by the way. 😛

So maybe I could get this from reading your bio or something, but I'm too lazy to go look at it (really, the laundry is just piling up so I don't have time), so my question is do you write full time? Since someone else in the comments mentioned working with you, it seems you have a day job? If so, how do you balance that with kids and writing?

  39. Your vlog was so funny! Makes me want to try it…Not.

Looking forward to meeting you at the next BCW meeting.

  40. I know we've talked on the phone, but seriously, girl – you have SUCH a Southern accent. 🙂 So darn cute.
    MOOAH! XX <3

  41. Oh, my gosh, this is too funny, Jessica. I love your southern accent and humor. You're a natural entertainer, and your vlog will definately be something I keep up with. Great job!

  42. Just watched your vlog, and enjoyed it. Look forward to more. You look great, and I like big mugs for coffee…lol
    Congrats on your vlog
