Can You Love With…?

…genuine affection, giving honor and respect to one another? Wednesday we’ll continue with Romans 12:10 in our series on humility. I hope you’ll join me because I was super excited to discover some amazing treasure that opened my eyes to see believers in a new way.

But until Wednesday, meditate on this scripture and ask yourself if you take delight in honoring others–not the others you enjoy spending time with and adore. What about those believers you don’t connect with or have hurt you? Ouch!

The video by Phil Wicka-Wicka-Wickham hints to our Wednesday’s study! I kept the post short and will keep Monday posts short so you can take advantage of the video and have a minute or 2 of worship before you move on to your next blog post.

What is your definition
of genuine affection?

  1. I loved the "Phil Wicka-Wicka-Wickham"…haha!! It is HARD for me to show genuine affection to people I don't necessarily click with. One of the things I've realized is that sometimes I do just have to force the affection…and then force it again…and then force again…until it does become genuine. God has this cool away of turning around our perception of people when we take the time to show affection, doesn't he? And I'm so grateful for that!

  2. Love! And I love your heart for others…even those you don't enjoy. 🙂

  3. I agree with Lindsay…Love! The genuine part comes naturally.

  4. Love and actually displaying it, even when others are acting unlovely. Not talking about hugs and whatnot, but showing genuine concern for other people's wellbeing as existence as God's children.

  5. genuine affection…oh boy. Loving even when I don't feel like it. Loving those that are prickly. And doing those things with a true heart, not just jumping through the hoops. That means a whole lot of God and a real little bit of me!

  6. Oh dear….such a difficult endeavor sometimes. My dad always told me to act how I want to feel and the feelings will come. Actually…he was right! 🙂

  7. Okay, here's my stab at it… Serving and preferring others unconditionally, at the expense of our own pride and selfish desires.

  8. This is something that God has been teaching me over the past few years…truly loving His Church. We are messy people, and we need grace, not just from God, but from each other…so loving with genuine affection and taking delight in honoring one another, for me, is cherishing the people of the Church, loving them the way they are, and striving to edify and encourage as we all seek to become more like Christ.
