This could be one of
my favorite verses in the Bible. Of course, I say that about every verse we
muse on. What I’m going through at the time determines my favorite verse for
that moment.

On Wednesday we’ll unpack this verse. Does being
still mean doing nothing? What is the difference between standing firm and
being still, or is there one?

Meditation/Musing Prompts: Look at the picture
with the little girl walking alone on the beach. Miles of sand. A huge ocean at
her back and sides. How does this photo parallel to these verses? Put yourself
in the place of the child. Think about times God has fought for you. Meditate
on the deliverance He brought, the victory you felt, let it encourage and
strengthen you for the next challenge/battle/war that comes. Examine yourself; do you let God fight for
you? Think of some times you tried to fight in your own power, how did it turn
out? Picture the LORD as a “a Man of War, trained for battle” take
comfort in His expert skill and leadership.

Prayer for today: Lord, with all the miles we
have to walk, the hot sand on our feet and an endless ocean of battles that
seem too hard to beat, with taunting waves that threaten and overwhelm us, we
know that you fight for us. That you love us. We are not alone. Thank you for
the times you’ve delivered us, extended and lavished grace and mercy. Thank
you, that you never fail us. You never leave us deserted and alone. Even when
we feel like you do. Thank you that we don’t have trust our emotions, even when
our faith sinks and we can’t trust that, we can trust the facts. The facts of
your word are true and faithful. They are reliable. They are guarantees. And
your word says, that you will fight for us. You will deliver us. You will show
yourself might and strong on our behalf. That you are with us to the very end.
Bless your name, Lord.

A
picture says a thousand words. In your own words, what do you see when you look
at the above picture? It can relate to the verse, but it doesn’t have to. It
can be serious or funny. I love to see how each mind is unique and thinks
differently. It’ll be fun reading the comments, come back if you have time and
see how we all look at one picture but see many different things!

I see a little girl who is being careful – deliberate – watching where she puts each step. She is taking her time, not rushing through her walk.
I'm curious to read everyone else's!
I'm having a bit of trouble seeing pictures well b/c the sun is shining so brightly through my window. You'd think I would pull down the blinds. Not going to happen. I'm soaking it in.
This verse reminds me of the message I heard at church yesterday. God's talking.
I love "The Lord will fight for you." I think that's one thing I love about writing romance. I like those scenes where the character is fighting and sacrificing for love because that reflects God's love for us.
Jessica – this is my 2013 verse. My word for this year is STILL, and it's got a two-fold meaning. Still, as in quietness and rest so that I can listen and know, and still, as in consistent: still faithful, still praying, still obedient, still following in HIS footsteps. That's what I see in that little girl up there…walking in the footsteps of her Father.
Blessings,
Becky
That's one of my favorite verses, too! We can be still in various ways, but God never says to stop moving toward Him. That's what this picture says to me in spades. Stillness is much more a state of mind and soul than physical posture. I can be sitting still in my favorite chair, yet my mind can be flooded with distraction, anxiety and all sorts of things. But when I get out and walk in God's creation, taking a journal and worship in the ear buds, there's a soul stillness … an expectancy to encounter God that sometimes doesn't happen sitting still in my favorite chair. 🙂
What I see is a little girl, not worried on the beach, just enjoying her walk…and how she is so little and so defenseless, but not showing any fear. Like she knows someone else has her back, she's just focused on taking the steps.
I see a little girl all alone, with not a soul in sight. She is just walking along, looking at the ground, curious as to what she might find along the way. She is not fearful and takes each step with confidence, finding contentment in the journey.
LOVE this post.
I see a little girl so focused. She's taking each step, not worrying about whether the waves will sweep the shore or if she can remain standing strong. Great post, Jessica.
I love this verse too! Thanks for bringing it to my attention today. 🙂 I'll be watching for your study on it.
Okay, the picture. I saw a sweet girl about my son's age, noticing how her shadow walks with her. She can't get ahead of it, she can't fall behind it. Her Daddy looks down at her and smiles. Reaching for her hand he says, "Kara, Jesus is like your shadow."
