Musing on Hebrews 13:20-21 God of Peace and Power!

The God of peace. I love that the author of Hebrews starts off with this. Why do you think that is? I think because all those works planned for us won’t be easy. I think they’ll come with questions and statements like:

“God, is this really what you want me to do?”

“God, what do you want me to do?”

“God, I can’t do that.”

“This seems hard. Too hard.”

“I’m confused.”

“I’m scared.”

“This isn’t working out like I thought.”

“How can this be good or pleasing to you? You do see this, right?”

“Am I in your will? I don’t even think I know what your will is!”

“Oh for the love, Jesus, talk to me!!”

I think it’s a right-off-the-bat reminder that the God of peace is working and if he’s our God, then he’s also our peace. No matter what what questions we have or statements we declare.

I wasn’t sure what I was going to blog about this week until my good friend, Melissa Tagg wrote a guest post about Leviticus on Jenny Hale’s blog. So join me Wednesday, don’t be scared!, while we dive into Leviticus and the peace offering and what significance it has on us today. I promise to guide you to some fascinating treasure pulled from what some might consider dry places (including myself once upon a time).

But for today…

Musing/Meditation Prompt: The God of all peace…are you at peace right now? Why or why not. Think on the amazing power it took to raise our Lord Jesus from the dead! That same power resides in you? Think of that everlasting covenant. You belong to him! Forever. God has marvelous plans for you. Think of occasions when you fulfilled some of those plans. Trust God today with them.

What would you say robs you of peace most quickly? What is one thing you can do today to change that?

  1. They say I'm dying, and I'm at peace with that. Not much choice, really, and raising a fuss would merely be bad manners.

I think that one of the foundation stones for peace IS good manners – toward those around us, and toward the Almighty.

Treating others, including our creator, with courtesy and decency and accepting their individuallness and their right to have opinions (and make decisions) which differ from what we might wish – without throwing a tantrum – is a prerequisite for accepting the contradictions in our own character.

And accepting our own imperfections without either revelling in sin or engaging in self-flagellation is the basis for inner peace.

  2. I think the what-ifs are what rob me of my peace. My mind sometimes goes instantly to the worst case scenario. I just need to remember that God is bigger than all that. There is no scary thing I can dream up that is bigger than Him.

  3. Listening to my own voice instead of God's–gets me everytime!

Love this verse:) And cannot wait to hear what you got from Leviticus.

  4. I was reading RC Sproul and he said "anxiety" is the biggest joy robber. And what is anxiety but fear. So true. My lack of trust in God robs me of that joy and peace sometimes.

  5. Definitely worry. I know God is faithful to get us through anything, but I don't want the bad things to happen — and I know that no amount of trust will necessarily stop them from coming. So I worry. But that's silly because I have absolutely no control. Better to spend my time and energy on what I CAN control…like not worrying. 😉

  6. It's a wonderful season of peace! After completing a busy spring speaking schedule, I have about 6 weeks of breathing room to focus on new projects and adventures. I'm enjoying the bird feeder in my backyard and the feathered life it brings into my little world. LOVE. Looking forward to Wednesday's insights!

  7. Worry robs me of peace so fast and so often that you'd think I'd be wise to it by now 😉 Recently, I've taken to purposefully recounting God's blessings upon me and my family. It's a journey, going from Miss Independent to leaning on God, but I'm thankful I'm keeping on the right path.

  8. After your text, of course I had to stop over and read your posts. 🙂 I'll read Wednesday's next, but thought I'd start with Monday's. Oh man, I love those verses. I'd have to say probably the thing that steals my peace most is when I let myself dwell on things I can't control. I'm actually not even that much of a worrier, but every now and then my overactive imagination takes a nosedive to the negative…and that's when I lose my peace. Thankfully, I have amazing people in my life who continually pull me back up…
