How to Make Your Own Pumpkin Spice Latte (and not feel guilty over calories)

Well, it’s that time of year when I clean out my fridge to make room for…flavored coffee creamers–holiday style. I read on a website about a sugar free pumpkin latte creamer that was out. So I threw on my raincoat and rain boots, since it was raining buckets that day. I trudged into the store only to be disappointed.

NADA.

How dare someone set me up like that?

So I decided over the weekend to see if I could make my own. Without all the calories, and maybe without all the flavor.

Well I did it. It was delish!

And hey, if you’ve already figured this trick out, keep your comments to yourself as I’m feeling very Betty Crockerish at the moment and I don’t need any funsuckers taking it away.

1 cup of coffee (at a time)
A splash or two of heavy whipping cream (I realize this is probably a little heavier on calories than non-fat milk, but you’re bypassing tons of whip cream so it won’t kill you.)
Splenda to taste (I like it sweet)
A dash or 2 of pumpkin pie spice

If you’re feeling good about your eating habits and calories, you could squirt some canned whip cream on top and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

So there  yah have it folks. DIY!

What’s your favorite holiday-ish drink? Have you ever created a drink? Care to share it (if it didn’t suck)?

  1. This looks great–never thought of the pumpkin pie spice! Excited to try. Thanks Jessica!

  2. Mmmmm…

Your post made me smile…last fall I was home at my parents' house for the weekend, and I don't remember why, but my mom was trying to cheer me up. Or maybe we were celebrating. I can't remember! I just remember she decided we'd go to the store and buy some pumpkin spice creamer. We get there, and like you said, nada. So she improvised and did exactly what your recipe does. So good!

  3. Color me suitably impressed, Jesse!

At Christmas, I love to use peppermint-flavored coffee and add sugar free hot cocoa. SO good, and SO guilt-free!

  4. Wow, you can make your own creamer? Too cool!! I love egg nog. I love it so much that I really need to avoid it or all drink three cups a night (and that's some major calories right there, LOL)

Kudos to you, Miss Creative! 🙂

  5. There is such a creamer, I promise, at least there is up here;)
I love a good pumpkin spice latte, but I'm telling you Starbucks Salted Caramel has topped that for me. But you HAVE to have the salt sprinkled on it. If they tell you there out, then they might as well not make the drink.
And I must confess to my concoction–warm milk & honey. Yep. Warm up the milk, swirl in some honey, top with some cinnamon and nutmeg. My nighttime comfort drink.

  6. You're sooooo impressive. 😉

I confess, I don't really like hot drinks. Maybe I burned my tongue on one as a kid…I dunno. I sometimes, sometimes get the caramel apple spice drink at Starbucks, but that's rare. It just doesn't get cold enough to really need one that badly anyway.

But this is coming from the girl who eats ice cream year-round.

  7. Sadly, my favorite holiday drink is the same as my favorite year-round drink. Diet Coke. In a can. 🙂

I made pumpkin bread this weekend, and mmmmm my house smelled so good!

  8. You just TOTALLY made my day!! Never thought of pumpkin pie spices!! You are such a GENIUS

  9. Sounds good, Jessica! I'm going to try it later today. Thanks for sharing that.

I love eggnog. Good old-fashioned homemade eggnog. My mother-in-law makes it.

  10. I'm not a coffee drinker, so I don't use creamer. I do drink lots of tea, though, and one of my fall favorites is Pumpkin Spice Chai. YUM! I keep a salt-style shaker of pumpkin pie spice to sprinkle on my oatmeal and in my chai. So handy and great way to flavor without adding calories.

  11. SWEET! Will have to try. I've been buying 1/2 and 1/2 and putting sugar into my coffee, in lieu of creamers. I figure it's cheaper and possibly healthier? Though considering how MUCH sugar I put in there, possibly not…

  12. I'm boring. My favorite drink year round is always water. (But reading posts like this make me semi-envious that I don't like coffee.) Occasionally, I like some hot chocolate or hot cider…but really…it just takes too long to make. Yes, I'm that lazy! LOL

  13. YUM! I'm SO trying that in the morning! My favorite holiday yummy is anything with pumpkin in it. Period. Pumpkin signals so many things: Fall is coming, festive holidays are right around the corner, and lots of fun family time at fall festivals and craft shows. LOVE!

  14. Yum! Sounds delicious! My favorite would probably be anything with peppermint in it.

  15. Mmmmm, that sounds yummy! I think I'd have to try to gingerbread sometime. That would be my hot latte of choice, I think. 🙂

  16. I've always loved Starbuck's carmel apple spice drink. I've never tried to make it, but my sister did send me a recipe to try. I'll have to let you know if its worth the effort. Your pumpkin spice latte recipe sounds good!

  17. Hmmm… my favorite holiday drink would probably be hot tea. Boring, I know, but it's warm so often here in Florida that regular hot tea is out of the question many months of the year.

My favorite drink my husband "created" is a smoothie… 1 cup of Chibani strawberry yogurt, three or four strawberries, a handful of blueberries, and orange juice to the brim of a Magic Bullet cup. Delicious and much healthier than the large quantities of sweet tea I'm always drinking! 🙂
