Let’s Chat!

I took this picture as we rode elephants in Burma.
Random picture, much like today’s post!

So, last week, Brandi Boddie at Penning Praises tagged me and asked 11 questions, so today I’m going to answer them. Thanks, Brandi!

1. Book or movie and why?

Book. Books have more details and internal dialogue that I can’t see in a movie. Although, I will say I love movies. Huge movie buff! Not to be taken as I watch movies in the buff. It means…well you look up buff.

2. Real book or eBook?

Either. As long as I get to read, I don’t care. I will say having a Kindle makes reading more convenient. I can take hundreds of books with me to one place and if I don’t care for a book, switch easily. *Writing craft books and non-fiction, I prefer in paperback because I like to write notes and highlight and it isn’t the same on an eBook.

3. Funniest thing you’ve done in the last five years?

Feel my pain? Stupid, worn out,
friggin hammock!

LOL! Funniest to me or funniest to a spectator? Because on Friday, I took my Perrier and Kindle to my old worn out hammock, kicked off my flip flops and stretched out only to have the blasted thing rip down the middle sending my backside onto the metal thingy that holds the frame on the ground. I know the neighborhood heard my wails and I lost my good Christian witness to my neighbor with a four-letter word as my expensive mineral water spilled all over my lap and my Kindle fell to the ground! What? You never say, “Ouch!” 😉

4. How would your best friend describe you?

I have more than one. But “Jane” says, I’m the smartest person she’s ever met. So I’m picking her. I try to keep her sheltered from other people so she won’t realize, I’m not.

I’d say my friends would describe me as fun, honest–
maybe too honest, and someone who gives good advice.

5. Do you put yourself into the books you read/write or movies you watch?

I don’t put myself into books or movies I watch. I can relate and sometimes God shows me how I’m like a particular character, but I never see me.  When I write? Yes, I think I see a part of me or a part of my experiences in each character at a times.

6. Favorite kind of car and why?

I’m not a car fan but when writing one of my novels, I fell in love with the Bentley Azure but that could just be because Peter Lance was driving it. *I am now fanning my face.

7. Would your choice of party be a catered meal or a BBQ out back?

BBQ out back. Each month we get together with friends, each one takes a turn hosting. Those are the best times for me. And it’s kind of catered when it’s not at my house! 🙂 And BBQ doesn’t mean you have to eat BBQ. It just means cooking out, at least down here.

8. What’s your favorite season and why?

Fall/Autumn. I love the temperatures, the color changes, I love weenie roasts, bonfires, hayrides, caramel apples, hoodies, and quilts on the patio.

9. What specific lesson have you learned? Spiritual, educational or occupational.

I don’t know if I can answer that since I’m learning a specific lesson on a regular basis. I suppose the biggest lesson learned that has effected all of my life in all areas, is if I beat my family up, spend my morning studying and in prayer before anything else, I’ll be equipped with what I need to face what the day holds when the sun rises. It’s a lesson I had to learn from experience, one I should have paid attention to by reading the word and taking Jesus’ example.

10. Besides writing, what’s your favorite thing to do when you get some extra time?

Read! I like hanging out with some girlfriends over coffee (during the day when everyone is gone). I like seeing movies with my hubby and chatting with my kids. They make me laugh.

11. What’s one place you can be found at least one time each week?

I’d say the grocery store, but that’s not true. Sometimes I put it off long enough my husband says, “Text me a list or we’ll starve.” A nice wife would say, “I’ll go.” I just text the list (it’s pre-typed but I wait about 15 minutes before sending).  I don’t have a place I regularly go that isn’t part of my daily routine. Some might say a coffee shop or the library and while I love both, I’d have to get out of my pajamas to go there so…

I’m not tagging anyone, I’m tagging everyone! If you need fodder for your blog or you’re a procrastinator, cough…Julie… this ought to make your day! If not, answer one, a few, or all here in the comments!

  1. I enjoyed learning more about you, Jess. That Bentley Azure is mighty nice. I can see why you like it.

I'll answer a couple of the questions. The funniest thing I've done recently was to mistake a doggie bag chucked into a tree by a hiker on my favorite walking trail for a beautiful bird. I went so far to as talk to the "bird"–with my hubby as my witness. I don't think I'm going to live this one down for a very long time. =)

One place I can be found every week is at Curves. Another is the walking trail I just mentioned. Taco Bell is yet another, although lately the spring rolls and pot stickers at Panda have been calling my name. Yum!

    1. Keli, that is too funny! I think I read about this on your blog. You took a picture, right? I did Curves several years ago and loved it.

  2. LOL…you are soooo funny! I love it…and I'd love to have been a fly on the fence while the hammock collapsed! Is that wicked of me? 😉

One place I can be found each week is Weight Watchers. Yep, I go to stand on the scale and smile. (at least most weeks I am smiling!)

    1. My husband wished he'd been here too. Only in person to laugh in my face. Much more wicked than being a fly!

    2. Maybe a little wicked, but I'd have wished the same if the tables were turned! LOL WW is a great program. I've done that one as well!

  3. I feel like I have so much to ask you and talk about based on this post. Love that Jane! I'm not a car fan either & I find that I read books on my Kindle much much slower.

    1. I read books on my Kindle faster, I think. It seems like less words on a page, idk?

We should hang out and chat then! I'd love to pick your brain!

  4. I'm baaaa-ack! 😀

Is it bad that I'm laughing at your pain (the Ouch described above)? Cuz I am.

I'm totally with you on the reading…I haven't tried a Kindle yet, though I'll probably break down and get one. I love fall as well, though the beginning of summer (you know, before it gets to be 115 degrees) is nice too…swimming, cookouts, vacation…yep, can't wait!

    1. When I saw you comment I said the same thing! She's baaaack! before I even read the comment. LOL

You should try the Kindle. Really. You should. I agree with early summer. Here, I call it Spring. LOL Bwahahahahaha!

  5. You are hilarious!!! I loved all this. I also love the fact that you felt the need to clarify that you don't watch movies in the buff. If I ever get to watch a movie with you (Jaws?), I will feel much more comfortable. 🙂

    1. I'm going to download JAWS somehow and force you to watch at ACFW. LOL Ok, like we'd have time, but someday!

    2. Someday! Yes!

  6. HA HA!! I loved the hammock story 🙂 🙂 Made me laugh for quite sometime after you txted me! 🙂 LOL

    1. Glad I could help entertain you! Ha!

  7. Hahahaha! Okay. You called me out. Just know that if I get fired from my job and end up homeless, I'm moving in with you 😉

    1. Book or movie and why? Book. Because I can skip to the end and read the last chapter first if I want to. I'm one of "those" people.

    2. Real book or eBook? Ebook – I love my Kindle. I like to highlight, add notes, and I like the text to speech feature so that I can read on the treadmill.

    3. Funniest thing you've done in the last five years? As in laughing at me or with me? Not long ago I had my eyebrows waxed and the women accidentally removed half of my eyebrow. There was a big strip in the middle of my eyebrow that was bald. No lie. Looking back, it was funny. At the time, it was traumatic. 🙂

    4. How would your best friend describe you? Kind. Compassionate. And a little neurotic.

    5. Do you put yourself into the books you read/write or movies you watch? Yes. Too much so. Really intense movies and books are hard for me because I feel like I'm in them. It's the reason I can't watch horror movies. They scare me half to death.

    6. Favorite kind of car and why? I'm not really a car person. My favorite vehicle was the pick up truck I had when I was in high school.

    7. Would your choice of party be a catered meal or a BBQ out back? Catered meal – Any time I don't have to cook is a good time.

    8. What's your favorite season and why? Summer. I'm always cold so I love the heat!

    9. What specific lesson have you learned? Spiritual, educational or occupational. It's okay to ask tough questions. Don't be afraid of them.

    10. Besides writing, what's your favorite thing to do when you get some extra time? I like naps. Seriously. My bed with a good book and time for a long nap makes me happy.

    11. What's one place you can be found at least one time each week? The gym. I try to be there three times a week. It's not my favorite thing to do, but I've gotten used to it.

    1. This actually dropped in my SPAM! That's why you couldn't see it. It was the internets way of saying, "Julie, you procrastinate too much!" LOL 🙂 Yes, come live with me! We could talk plot on the hammock…oh wait…!

  8. Oh thanks for the laugh…the picture of your hammock…the description that followed…still giggling:)

    1. I live to serve! 😉

  9. I loved learning more about you, Jess! I'm sorry, I giggled…no – let out a belly laugh at your hammock story.

    You are such a gem!

    1. Thanks, Loree! I laughed pretty good too, AFTER! 🙂

  10. Fun answers, Jessica! Sorry to hear about your hammock episode 🙂

What a nice hubby you have to pick up the groceries. Keeper!

    1. Yes, I think I'll be keeping him. Thanks for tagging me. I had fun answering them!

  11. I left a long comment, but I guess blogger deleted it. 🙁 Or you deleted it, which, who can blame you? I will restate that if I get fired from my job for procrastinating, I'm coming to live with you.

  12. "…if I beat my family up…" I must admit I had to read that one a couple of times. I thought, she beats her family up??

Anyway, great post! I agree with most of your answer especially Fall/Autumn. My favorite season too! 🙂

  13. Oh my word, that hammock accident looks awful! I bet your backside felt that one for a while. 🙁

And I'm with you on the Kindle. Love it for fiction, but for writing books, I've gotta highlight and bookmark. I know Kindle says you can do those things on it, but it's just not the same.

  14. I just spit my ice water through my nose with your texting your husband the grocery list story. Of course you already have it ready! That's awesome!

  15. Yay! This was a fun tag. I think you took it more seriously than I did.

  16. Sorry about your spill in the backyard Jessica, but I have to say, I would loved to have seen that one:)

  17. I really enjoyed the hammock story. Not that you fell, just the story.
