Below are some discussion questions to start some good book club conversation!
- Which character could you relate to most/least and why or why not?
- Fiona believes if she can bring justice to her family by capturing Rhyme then she will have freedom but soon realizes that freedom and justice are not the same. How do you define justice and freedom and why can you have one and not the other?
- Asa enables his younger sister due to the fact she’d been through so much and he felt responsible. But why is always coming to her aid dangerous?
- Rhyme stages his victims in nursery rhyme scenes to reveal their true nature. Do you have a favorite nursery rhyme or one you think is especially creepy sounding?
- Rhyme is killing people who wear masks—act one way in private which is pretty awful and another way in public. What are some other ways people wear masks?
- These victims all attended church but their lives were hypocritical. Seeing the hypocrisy left a bad taste in Fiona’s mouth, but she also saw real change in Asa in the good parts of being a believer. How do Christians leave a sour taste in unbelievers and other church-goers’ mouths?
- Amanda tells Fiona that her initial judgment of her was wrong. Fiona said that Amanda has innocence on her face and darkness never has touched her, but Amanda state that she has had some pretty bad things happen, however she hadn’t let it break her. The darkness doesn’t get to win and she let God heal her, for her benefit—helping others who might also suffer from the same suffering she experienced—and for God’s glory. But it’s a choice. Do you agree with this statement? Has God ever taken something bad that happened to you or in your life and turn it into something good that shows His healing power in your life? - Asa is a new believer and is still growing in his faith and struggling with his temper and swear words. Do you have something you still struggle with but work and pray about? How have you overcome some of the bad habits and sins in your life?
- In the beginning of Chapter One, Fiona talks about serial killers and how some are born that way and some are shaped by environment. Do you believe this? Why or why not? And if you had to guess which was which concerning Rhyme and Naughty Kitten, which one is which in your opinion?
- Do you think the grandmother really did kill her husband and had knowledge what was going on under her roof or was she innocent?
- Who did you think was the killer? Did you guess what was happening? When did you know?
- Who would you cast from Hollywood as the actors if this book was a movie?
